New Tutor – Alannah Thornburgh

We are delighted to announce that Alannah Thornburgh from Swinford, County Mayo will join us as a new tutor on Tin Whistle for this years Summer School. Alannah Thornburgh began playing music at the age of five, starting on the tin whistle and fiddle, quickly progressing to the piano and finally the harp at the age of eleven under the tutelage of Grainne Hambly. She has won numerous All-Ireland Fleadh prizes and is also a member of the All-Ireland winning Tiarna Mhaigh Eo ceili band. Alannah is an established music teacher having taught at many summer schools such as Westport Scoil Cheoil and South Sligo Summer School. She teaches regularly for her comhaltas branch in Swinford, Michael Davitt CCE. A third year undergraduate of Music and English in Maynooth University, Alannah recently won the ‘Music Class Prize’ for the best exam results in her class. Alannah recently toured Ireland and Britain with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann and will embark on a tour of North America in October 2015.
