Seosamh MacGabhann Summer School - From the Start
2011

1st Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School

When news filtered through to Kilmovee in March, that the Dr. Douglas Hyde Summer School was not taking place in Ballaghaderreen in 2011, we had a thought – would it be possible to host a Summer School in Kilmovee? In this time of financial uncertainty, we knew we had what everyone was looking for, a very safe currency – Seosamh Mac Gabhann! The level of goodwill and support towards the idea of setting up the Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School was enormous, both from Tutors and the local community groups in Kilmovee. After four months of hard work, we were delighted to be in a position to officially open the first ever Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School in Kilmovee, on July 4th 2011. Read More...

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Vincent Sherlock, with the choir led by Ann Marie Rooney and Marian Egan. This was followed by the Heritage Tour on Sunday afternoon. The tour visited many interesting sites including Logán Ó Labhra, the Ogham Stone, the Caiseal and Urlaur Abbey. Johnny (Matt) Duffy was a fantastic tour guide and proved to be a fountain of knowledge on the historical and archaeological sites of Kilmovee Read More...

3rd Annual Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School

The 3rd Annual Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School took place in Kilmovee from June 30th to July 5th 2013. This Summer School is now established on the Summer School Calendar and is the first one to take place each Summer. It is unique in that it is not as large as most of the other Summer Schools, due to the limited space available. However, this ensures it is a family event where the focus is on the music, song, dance and Gaeilge as well as making friends and having the craic. Read More...

4th Annual Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School

The 4th annual Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School was the biggest and best yet with over 240 pupils attending classes. This is a testament to the continued growth of music, song, dance and Gaeilge in the parish of Kilmovee and surrounding areas.
Of course this revival of interest in Irish music, song, dance and Gaeilge has not happened by chance and is fuelled by the great work being done by the local Kilmovee Comhaltas branch led by Ann Marie Rooney and Marian Egan. Read More...
