4th Summer School 2014

Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School – 2014

The 4th annual Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School was the biggest and best yet with over 240 pupils attending classes. This is a testament to the continued growth of music, song, dance and Gaeilge in the parish of Kilmovee and surrounding areas.

Of course this revival of interest in Irish music, song, dance and Gaeilge has not happened by chance and is fuelled by the great work being done by the local Kilmovee Comhaltas branch led by Ann Marie Rooney and Marian Egan.

One of the highlights of the Summer School week was the packed houses at the slow sessions, with great enthusiasm and eagerness to play, sing and dance from all in attendance. This added to a great week, with classes during the day and sessions at night.

The week of classes ended with the closing concert, where pupils got the opportunity to showcase what they had learned during the week. A highlight of the concert was ‘Le Chéile’ a new class added this year for teenagers, with 20 young musicians producing a 30 minute performance, after a week of high level tuition from tutors Caoimhe and Cian Kearins.

The continued success of the Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School is ensured. This Summer School is now an established event nationally on the Summer School calendar and is a great credit to everyone in Kilmovee who has made this possible, including the Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School committee, the staff of the Kilmovee Community Centre and Family Resource Centre, as well as all the great help from the many volunteers.
